This is just a brief overview of what you can expect to study in English 11 this year. We have also included a list of rules and requirements for this class. First of all, you must remember the basicsalways come to class prepared with a pen or pencil. Be prepared every day to listen, take notes, ask questions, and learn new things. Always try to keep a positive attitude. Take full advantage of the resources available to you at school, including the library, computer labs, textbooks, and teachers (they are all available and anxious to help you). Remember that school is a great place to be where you will meet many people and learn many new things if you are willing to participate and cooperate. Your grade will be based on the average percent total of all the work you complete. Graded assignments will consist of: quizzes/tests homework class participation performance tasks writing assignments reading assignments large/small group discussions and activities completion of 4 LDC Modules In this class, we will focus on different language arts skills that will help you learn and get the most out of every class you have. Here are some of the activities we will complete this year: the Writing Process vocabulary writing activities essays readings of poetry, short stories, plays, novels, and other literary works information on writing research papers I-Search projects discussions about current events and issues in the world and our community Eleventh-grade English class will cover many different stories in American Literature. Here are a few of the pieces we will read this year: Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck The Raven and The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry Out, Out by Robert Frost Dr. Heideggers Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne If you agree to participate and cooperate in this class every day, you will be sure to have a great time and learn many new things that will help you in the years to come.
